“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” you have heard this often enough, from William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. Here Juliet is referring to the fact that Romeo’s awesomeness is not affected by him being from a enemy family. This same thought comes to my mind when I hear people claiming that content marketing (CM) is a new fad and just as many other fads this will go to. If you are wondering how do the two connect – The fads that people refer to (the ones that have come and gone) some of them have been CM only. Except they were called differently!! However just because they were called differently, does not mean it was not CM!!
The content marketing institute have put together a infographic on the history of content marketing. Down below you can check it out. From Almanacks, Journals, company magazine, in-store radio programs the list is endless. Robert and Joe have come up with so many examples of storytelling from history, though each of them was called differently at the time, and presumably considered a FAD!
Cecil B. DeMille once said “The greatest art in the world is the art of story telling”. You can call it by a hundred other names, but that will not change the fact, that at the base of it all, it is still and will remain storytelling!
